Jordan F. Karp, MD, is the Department Chair and Professor of Psychiatry at the College of Medicine, University of Arizona, where he also serves as both Clinical Service Chief for Behavioral Medicine and Medical Director for Behavioral Health Technology at Banner University Medical Center and Group–Tucson. He is expert in the fields of geriatric psychiatry, depression treatment, chronic pain, and suicide prevention. Prior to joining the University of Arizona, Dr Karp served as a professor of psychiatry, anesthesiology, and clinical and translational science at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine, where he directed the Late-Life Depression Prevention and Treatment Research Program, served as Director of Medical Student Mental Health Services, and was program director for the geriatric psychiatry fellowship.

Dr Karp is a prolific author and has been continuously funded by the National Institutes of Health (NIH), Patient Centered Outcomes Research Institute (PCORI), American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP), and the Brain and Behavior Research Foundation (BBRF) since 2006.

Dr Karp is committed to providing rapid reviews of submitted manuscripts, selecting only the highest quality psychiatric clinical science for publication, and engaging trainees, early career clinicians, and clinical scientists in the mission and activities of JCP.

Dr Karp also serves as aSection Editor for JCP’s Focus on Geriatric Psychiatry section. The objective of this collection is to encourage scientific studies relating to the mental health of older adults. We encourage authors to review the scope of this section and submit papers for consideration.
