Sir: In patients with bipolar I disorder, low total serum cholesterol levels have been reported during full remission and manic and depressive episodes.1,2 Several cohort studies3-5 assessed the relationship between plasma cholesterol level and depressive symptoms with contradictory results. Studies6,7 focusing on depressive patients have been more consistent in reporting an association between low total serum cholesterol and major depressive disorder.’ ‹
