Article Abstract

Sir: In the recent article by Peterson and Cohen, there is conflicting and inconsistent dosing advice for clonidine in Tourette’s syndrome on page 68. The authors recommend starting clonidine at 0.25 mg once or twice daily and working up slowly to a total of 0.1 to 0.3 mg/day in 3 or 4 divided doses. First, clonidine comes only as unscored tablets of 0.1, 0.2, and 0.3 mg, so 0.25 mg is not a reasonable dose. Second, the titration schedule ends with a total daily dose less than the starting dose.
