Letter to the Editor
Sir: Paradoxically, fluoxetine has been reported both to delay
or abolish orgasms1 and also to induce spontaneous orgasms.
Fluoxetine-associated exercise-induced orgasms represent
an additional orgasmic disturbance that, to my knowledge,
has not previously been reported. This letter reports a
woman whose fluoxetine treatment for depression was accompanied
by the development of orgasms arising unintentionally
during vigorous exercise. The co-occurrence of these exerciseinduced
orgasms with the development of delayed orgasms during
purposeful sexual activity may shed light on the relationship
of serotonergic medications to sexual function.
