Article Abstract

Sir: Olanzapine, a thienobenzodiazepine, is an atypical antipsychotic agent similar to clozapine, risperidone, and quetiapine in that it selectively binds to serotonin receptors. It also has an affinity for the D2, D4, D1, muscarinic, α1-adrenergic, and H1 histaminic receptors. Olanzapine is well tolerated and has a safety profile associated with a low incidence of extrapyramidal movements and agranulocytosis.
