Article Abstract

Because this piece does not have an abstract, we have provided for your benefit the first 3 sentences of the full text.

This is one book in a series of treatment manuals edited by David H. Barlow, PhD, that has the stated intention of providing assistance to clinicians who care for patients diagnosed with schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, or other chronic and severe forms of mental illness in addition to substance abuse or dependence. During the course of this brief review, I hope that it will become apparent that the authors of this guide far exceed their declared purpose by gently guiding the reader step by step through the complex pathways of dual diagnosis evaluation and treatment.
