Sir: Chronic infection with hepatitis.65 C virus (HCV) is the most common cause of liver disease in the United States and is responsible for approximately one third of liver transplants. Interferon-alpha and combination therapy with interferon-alpha and ribavirin are the only approved treatments for chronic hepatitis C2; however, side effects, which include depression, anxiety, irritability, and even suicidal thoughts, can lead to discontinuation of therapy.
