A roundtable conference was held June 29-30, 1999, at which 5 participants discussed areas of major importance with respect to posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD). In recent years, it has become evident that PTSD is a major health concern both in the United States and worldwide. Unfortunately, it continues to be poorly recognized and not well treated, though long-lasting morbidity results from the disorder.
