Opening remarks by Steven P. Roose, M.D., set the tone for the serious topic of comorbid vascular disease and depression. In combination, these illnesses are deadly. Depression is a widely prevalent illness. The World Health Organization1 predicts that by the year 2020, depression will be the leading cause of morbidity worldwide.
