Article Abstract

Letter to the Editor

Sir: I appreciate Dr. Lamberti’s comments on my article. He is correct in pointing out that, in his 1992 report, there was an inverse correlation between weight gain and decrease in the Brief Psychiatric Rating Scale score. However, the correlation was not statistically significant (Spearman r = 0.31, df = 28, p < .1). We were not aware of the second study cited by him, which was apparently an unpublished oral presentation. Without further peer-reviewed evidence, we would still contend that the relationship between weight gain and improvement in clinical state remains tentative.
