Article Abstract

From our regular book review column.

There is a serious concern in academic psychiatry that fewer
psychiatrists are choosing careers in research. This has been
explained by a number of factors including the reality that
many psychiatry residents in the United States have accumulated
substantial debts at the time that they are ready to make
critical decisions about their career direction. Salaries from research
fellowships may be substantially less than those in private
practice or other clinical positions.
