Sir: The hallucinogenic sage Salvia divinorum (S.divinorum) is known by many names, including ska Maria, skaPastora, hojas de Maria, and many others. Despite its manynames, S. divinorum was not identified until 1962, whenWasson and Hofmann collected a member of the Lamiaceae(mint) family that was known by the Mazatec people of Oaxaca,Mexico, to have psychoactive properties. In recent years, S.divinorum has become widely available throughout the world,via numerous internet suppliers, either as leaves or as concentratedextracts.’ ‹
