Sir: Underactivity of serotonin systems in the brain has been proposed as a significant factor in patients who have difficulty controlling aggressive impulses. Consistent with this theory, the selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRI) sertraline has been shown to be helpful in reducing impulsive aggressive behaviors in depressed, personality disordered, and developmentally disabled patients.
