Article Abstract

From our regular book review column.

Effective treatment of anorexia nervosa is a complex integration of many disciplines and interventions. Anorexia nervosa in adolescents is best seen within the context of a family. To make changes in the family system is a critical component of the treatment of anorexia nervosa in adolescents. To date, there is very little empirical literature to support the value of specific forms of psychotherapy when treating adolescents. The most successful model is a family-based treatment model that was developed at the Maudsley Hospital in London, England. Treatment Manual for Anorexia Nervosa: A Family-Based Approach takes that successful approach and develops it into an effective treatment manual.
