In this issue of the Journal, Meltzer et al.1 presentprovocative results from a randomized, double-blind Istudy showing that larger-than-typically-prescribed dosesof olanzapine appear to be equivalent to conventionaldoses of clozapine in treatment-resistant schizophrenia.Although the sample size is relatively small (totalN = 40), the data are consistent with the notion that highdoseolanzapine might be effective in treatment-resistantschizophrenia. These findings are important because theyopen up the possibility of a new approach to treatmentresistantschizophrenia.’ ‹’ ‹
